16th June 2025 - News
On June 13, the Guijuelo Fairgrounds (Salamanca) became the meeting point for the Iberian pig sector with the celebration of the 9th edition of the Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards. The gala brought together more than 400 professionals in an event that once again highlighted the effort, technical excellence, and commitment of the country’s most outstanding pig farms.
Organized by the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), and supported by the BDporc database as an analytical tool, the awards recognize the technical and productive performance of participating farms. This year, a total of 32 awards were presented to 22 farms located in Castilla y León, Extremadura, and Andalusia, selected based on data from 2024.
Valladolid, Salamanca, Badajoz, Segovia, and Córdoba Take Center Stage in the Special Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards
Among the evening’s most prestigious awards, the Porc d’Or Ibérico with Diamond was awarded to Covel Boceguillas, a farm located in Boceguillas (Segovia) and managed by Agrocesa – Vall Companys Group. This recognition honors the farm with the highest overall excellence, evaluating aspects such as management, technical efficiency, and comprehensive operations. Agrocesa also received the award for Maximum Productivity, which went to the farm Ibéricos Encinas S.L. in Encinas de Abajo (Salamanca), for achieving the best results in weaned piglets per Iberian sow per year.
Meanwhile, the Outdoor Production Award went to Dehesa del Rey, in Cardeña (Córdoba), part of the Covap cooperative, for its integration of animal welfare, biosecurity, and sustainability within the dehesa ecosystem. The One Health Porc d’Or Ibérico Award, presented by Ceva Animal Health, was awarded to La Ensancha farm in Fuente de Cantos (Badajoz), part of the Santana Hernández Group, for its effective collaboration between the veterinary and farming teams and the implementation of innovative practices focused on animal health. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food granted the Sustainability Award to Granja Morante, in La Roca de la Sierra (Badajoz), owned by Piensos Costa, in recognition of its environmental commitment and focus on animal welfare.
Castilla y León and Extremadura, Leaders in the Technical Porc d’Or Awards
The jury also awarded 27 technical statuettes, gold, silver, and bronze, to farms that excelled in categories such as number of live births per litter, productive longevity, and farrowing rate. These were divided into three categories based on farm size to ensure fair evaluation. Castilla y León emerged as the most recognized region, earning 17 awards shared among farms in Valladolid, Segovia, and Salamanca. Valladolid stood out as the most awarded province, with nine distinctions, followed by Salamanca with four and Segovia with three. Extremadura also played a key role, with eight awards distributed among farms in Badajoz and Cáceres. Andalusia, meanwhile, earned a silver award for a farm in Jaén.
