27th October 2025 - News
More than 900 professionals from the pig farming sector gathered last Friday, October 24, at the La Llotja Conference Centre in Lleida to celebrate the 32nd Porc d’Or Awards Gala, the event that honors excellence in white-layer pig production in Spain. In this edition, Galicia stood out with 16 awards, while the highest distinction, the Porc d’Or Diamond Award, went to a farm in Navarre.
Awards for excellence in pig production
This year, a total of 43 awards were presented to pig farms that stand out for their excellence in productivity, animal health, and welfare. All were selected based on the analysis of 2024 technical and production data registered in the BDporc system, together with welfare, health, and environmental information collected through surveys, and after a visit by the jury delegation to farms nominated for the Special Awards.
With 16 awards, Galicia emerged as the standout winner of this edition of the Porc d’Or Awards. Of these, 13 went to farms in Ourense and three in A Coruña, most of them belonging to the Coren Group. In second place was Aragon, with 11 awards, followed by Castile and León with six, and Catalonia with five. Other regions such as Navarre and Andalusia also received distinctions, reflecting the high level of competitiveness and diversity within Spain’s swine industry.
Special awards
The Porc d’Or One Health Award, sponsored by Ceva Animal Health, went to the Laguarres – Agropecuaria del Isábena farm of Mazana Feed Mills (Huesca). The jury highlighted the excellent cooperation between the farmer and veterinarian, the implementation of strict biosecurity measures, and a responsible use of antibiotics.
The Porc d’Or MAPA Award for Sustainability was granted to El Cerruco, from Agrocesa – Vall Companys Group, in San Esteban de Gormaz (Soria), for its advanced animal welfare model, use of renewable energies, and efficient water management.
Meanwhile, the Porc d’Or Diamond Award, the event’s highest honor, was presented to SAT 4835 Urra-Zurucuáin, from Piensos Costa, in Zurucuáin (Navarre). The farm stood out for its outstanding production results, individualized sow management, and overall excellence in technical, health, and environmental performance.
In addition, this edition introduced a new methodology for the Longevity Award, based on the percentage of sows surpassing their third reproductive cycle, highlighting the importance of sustainability and herd stability in pig farming.
A consolidated meeting to recognize effort and share knowledge
The Porc d’Or Awards have become one of the most prestigious events in Spain’s swine industry, not only for recognizing technical and welfare excellence, but also for serving as a platform for dialogue between science, business, and government.
Organized by IRTA and based on data from BDporc (the Swine Reference Data Bank), these awards contribute to driving innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement in Spain’s pig production.
Rotecna reaffirms its commitment to the Porc d’Or Awards
Once again, Rotecna has renewed its commitment to the swine sector by sponsoring the Porc d’Or Awards. Through this support, the company backs an initiative that recognizes the effort and dedication of Spanish farms that strive for innovation, animal welfare, and sustainability.
