Sustainable packaging management has become one of today’s major environmental challenges. Inefficient design, excessive use of materials or improper management at the end of a package’s life cycle can generate a direct negative impact on the environment.

For this reason, at Rotecna we actively work to reduce the environmental impact of packaging by promoting responsible practices based on the 3R principle: reduce, reuse and recycle. Our goal is to move towards a more efficient, responsible model aligned with the principles of the circular economy.

In addition, we collaborate with GENCI (Gestión de Envases Comerciales e Industriales) to promote the proper management of packaging waste and ensure that it is treated appropriately once it has fulfilled its function.

Good practices in the design and use of sustainable packaging

Sustainability begins at the design stage, long before packaging reaches its destination. At Rotecna, we apply eco-efficiency criteria in packaging design, aiming to minimize waste generation without compromising the quality or safety of our products.

Among the main measures to reduce packaging waste that we already implement are:

• Adjusting packaging size to the product, avoiding unnecessary empty spaces and reducing material consumption.
• Optimizing design for palletizing and transport, allowing more products to be transported with fewer packages and thereby reducing emissions and waste.
• Incorporating recycled material at the highest possible percentage, both in plastic and cardboard packaging.
• Using reusable packaging in internal processes, promoting reuse and material circularity.
• Replacing single-use packaging with reusable solutions whenever technically feasible.
• Collaborating with specialized suppliers to develop more sustainable, innovative packaging aligned with our environmental objectives.

These actions help improve resource efficiency and reduce the environmental impact associated with transport and storage.

The importance of properly recycling packaging waste

Good design is essential, but responsibility does not end when packaging is used. Proper separation and recycling of waste is key to ensuring that materials can be recovered and reused. For this reason, at Rotecna we encourage collaboration with distributors and customers to ensure proper packaging waste management. Placing each package in the appropriate container according to its material helps improve recycling processes and reduce environmental impact. Small actions, such as properly separating waste or reusing materials whenever possible, generate a significant positive impact on environmental protection.
