Aragon leads the list of winners of the Porc d’Or Awards 2026

02nd November 2026 - News

The pig farming sector gathered in Santiago de Compostela to celebrate the 33rd edition of the Porc d’Or Awards, which recognise pig farms that stand out each year for their technical and production performance, continuous improvement, and commitment to sustainability, animal health and welfare. Organised by IRTA, with the collaboration of Ceva Animal Health and the Interprofessional Organisation for Pig Production (Interporc), the gala brought together more than 650 professionals on Friday, 30 October, at the Galicia Conference and Exhibition Centre. A total of 89 farms competed, with 118 nominations in the technical and production categories, alongside the finalists for the three special awards.

For the first time, Galicia has hosted the Porc d’Or Awards ceremony. The region has a strong track record in the competition and topped the rankings in the 2025 edition, with 16 awards. The choice of Santiago de Compostela as the venue highlights the importance of Galicia’s pig production sector and the role played by its farms and professionals within the wider industry.

Aragón, Galicia and Catalonia lead the rankings

The distribution of awards reflected the diversity of the sector across Spain. Aragón topped the rankings with 13 awards, followed by Galicia with 11 and Catalonia with 7. Farms from Castilla y León, Navarre and Andalusia were also recognised during the evening. The awards are divided into four categories according to the number of breeding sows on each farm, allowing facilities of similar sizes to be compared. Four indicators are assessed: numerical productivity, farrowing rate, longevity and lactation management. Nominations are determined based on the technical and production data recorded in BDporc.

The 16 Gold awards were distributed among six autonomous communities, with Galicia leading the way with four, all awarded to farms belonging to the Coren group: three in Ourense, in the category for farms with up to 500 breeding sows, and the fourth, Ponte Coirós, in A Coruña, among farms with more than 2,000 sows. Aragón, Catalonia and Castilla y León each secured three Gold awards, with farms in Huesca and Zaragoza in the first case, Lleida and Barcelona in the second, and Zamora, Salamanca and Burgos in the third. Navarre received two awards, with Piensos Costa farms in Viana and Zurucuáin, while Andalusia completed the list with Navarro - Las Barreras, in Marchena (Seville), which won in lactation management.

Diamond, Sustainability and One Health: the special awards

Beyond production indicators, the gala presented three special awards. The Porc d’Or Diamond Award went to Granja Pellicer, part of Vall Companys Group, located in Valderrobres (Teruel). The jury highlighted its strong and balanced reproductive performance, the excellent longevity of its sows and the careful management of both sows and piglets. It also recognised the implementation of innovative measures to improve animal welfare and reduce mortality during lactation and after weaning.

Galicia received the other two special awards. The MAPA Porc d’Or Sustainability Award went to Granja Bendoiro, owned by Nudesa, in Lalín (Pontevedra), in recognition of its commitment to biosecurity, animal welfare and integration into its surroundings, with particular emphasis on the development of a digital twin for animal monitoring. The Porc d’Or One Health Award, presented by Ceva Animal Health, recognised Agrorozas, in Poio (Pontevedra), for its close collaboration between veterinarian and farmer, strict biosecurity and prevention measures, excellent animal health status with very limited antibiotic use, and the training and commitment of its team.

An awards list that goes beyond the numbers

The three special awards confirm that farm excellence is no longer measured solely by production results, but also by sustainability, animal health, animal welfare and the professional expertise of the people managing the farms. This comprehensive approach has helped establish the Porc d’Or Awards as a benchmark, supported by BDporc, the Pig Production Reference Database, as a tool for comparing performance and driving continuous improvement.

Once again, Rotecna continues its involvement in the awards as a sponsor, reaffirming its commitment to a sector that is moving forward through innovation, animal welfare and sustainability.
